Sony: Meet the World’s Lightest 600mm F6.3 Prime

The compact, lightweight, easy super-telephoto prime

This high-performance 600 mm F6.3 super-telephoto prime lens is the world’s lightest1 at just 995 g (35.1 oz., minus tripod foot). A combination of G Master optics and the latest mechanical design achieves remarkably low weight, smooth handling, and minimum fatigue while delivering outstanding image quality when shooting handheld. Overall length is just 263 mm (10-3/8 in.) for outstanding mobility.

Superb G Master sharpness for breathtaking detail

Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and ED glass elements in an advanced optical design minimize aberration for high resolution that befits the G Master brand. Sony’s original Nano AR Coating II effectively suppresses flare and ghosting for superior clarity and contrast in backlit conditions. An 11-blade circular aperture and individually optimized spherical aberration contribute to smooth, creamy G Master bokeh.

AF that reliably captures challenging subjects

Two of Sony’s high-thrust XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors work with an advanced algorithm to bring out the full AF speed and precision potential of the latest camera bodies. Focus and subject tracking are fast, precise, and quiet. The unpredictable movements of birds and wildlife are reliably tracked and captured, even when shooting 120 fps bursts2 with the α9 III body, for example.

Enhanced shooting freedom and control

Optical image stabilization with selectable modes delivers sharp images when shooting handheld. The lens and a compatible body can work in concert for even more effective stabilization.3 Four focus hold buttons and a function ring4 can be customized as needed, while Full Time DMF and Focus Range Limit switches offer flexible focus control. Focal length can be extended to 1200 mm with an optional teleconverter.5

Reliable in challenging outdoor conditions

A dust and moisture resistant design6 ensures high reliability in outdoor conditions where light rain and airborne dust might otherwise be a problem. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that prevents contaminants from sticking to the lens surface while making it easier to clean
