SIGMA – Dedication to Detail and Quality
Sigma is a Japanese manufacturer of photographic lenses and cameras. Their production is based entirely in Japan, with their headquarters in Kanagawa and their factory in Aizu, Fukushima. Sigma has been a family-owned company since their founding by Michihiro Yamaki in 1961. Today, Sigma is managed by his son, Kazuto Yamaki. It is this independence that allows Sigma to explore different approaches and pursue Sigma’s ideal of craftsmanship.
Our Aizu factory was established in 1973. To this day, it remains Sigma’s sole manufacturing base, with every step of production – from initial concept to optical engineering, product assembly, quality control, and even parts sourcing – taking place in Japan. Although not without its challenges, this conscious decision ensures seamless collaboration across departments and partner companies, quick response times, and rigorous quality control at every stage of production. Our deep ties to the Tohoku region, particularly Aizu, have allowed us to become part of the local community, to support its culture, to advance local technology, and to nurture the expertise of our employees.
We believe in quality and innovation without compromise. Every single lens, camera and accessory is manufactured to meet our high expectations. For more than sixty years, we have continued to set new standards in photographic equipment and provide photographers and filmmakers with powerful and long-lasting tools to realize their creative visions.
Sigma values diversity and the freedom of everyone to create and express themselves through art. The continued expansion of our sales and service network reflects this perspective. As a global company, we embrace universal human values and strive to contribute to the well-being and happiness of people in every region where we operate.
The Right Tools For Unique, Special Moments
Since our founding in 1961, SIGMA has exclusively produced photography and video-related products. We focus 100% of our effort on creating tools for these art forms. Regardless of who is behind the camera – we believe that any moment chosen to be photographed is special and carries unique significance. Being even a small part of these moments is both incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for us. It’s what drives us to innovate and further explore.
