Hi – Smoke detectors are listed under ‘Unacceptable Materials for Waste Collections’. Smoke detector companies are part of a manufacturer responsibility take back program. Click here to access United Stated Postal Service Postal Bulletin 22343 which provides guidance on whom and how to ship smoke detectors needed to be discarded or call Bergen County Utilities Authority at 201-807-5825 for more information.

Do you accept a swollen phone?

It looks like rechargeable/phone batteries are listed under the ‘unacceptable hazardous waste’ page here, so unfortunately cannot be accepted at a hazardous waste day. BCUA lists http://www.call2recycle.org on their website to learn more about rechargeable batteries and cell phones.
