We’re here for any questions you may have.

THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW

A new era in digital SLR technology is about to begin. Up to now, digital SLRs simply replaced film with an electronic imaging device, which did not significantly change the products in terms of size, weight and user interface. The new, revolutionary mirrorless camera, the OM-D E-M5, has an exceptionally light and compact body. Its Electronic View Finder enables photographers to check exposure levels, white balance and preview Art Filter effects in real-time. When shooting, the photographer can instantly “create” a truly unique world and preserve it in exceptional quality. The “world” will be transformed from something you see to something you “take part” in.

The OM-D is a groundbreaking, new digital interchangeable lens camera perfect for people who want to “take part”, “create”, and “share”.

ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER

The OM-D’s new electronic viewfinder (EVF) features a high-resolution 1.44-million dot LCD, 100% field-of-view coverage, and 1.15x maximum magnification that let you totally immerse yourself in your subject, and actively control image creation. The EVF also enables you to enlarge the focus point for precision focusing in virtually any shooting situation, and can show you the effect of Highlight & Shadow Control, White Balance, Exposure Compensation, Aspect Ratio, and a host of other settings and advanced digital image processing functions right in the viewfinder. With improved precision and responsiveness that make it as easy to use as an optical viewfinder, the OM-D’s advanced EVF gives you virtually unlimited creative control.

Three key factors contribute to the OM-D’s unprecedented image quality: a wide lineup of M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses for sharp, clear subject capture, a new 16-megapixel Live MOS image sensor for rich tonal expression, and an advanced TruePic VI image processor for superb color fidelity. The optimal balance of these factors ensures the high resolution, sensitivity, and color accuracy you need to brilliantly capture the world around you.

FAST AF

The world’s fastest* AF system, FAST AF, has been made even faster and more accurate on the OM-D. Improved new 3D Tracking AF assures you won’t miss the moment even when subjects move toward or away from you, and the new high-sensitivity image sensor ensures superior AF performance even in dim light.

* Among digital cameras with interchangeable lenses available as of February 8, 2012, when using the OLYMPUS M. ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ lens with the E-M5, based on Olympus in-house measurement conditions.

9.2 FPS HIGH-SPEED SEQUENTIAL SHOOTING

Thanks to the new 16-megapixel Live MOS image sensor’s high-speed read-out performance, the OM-D offers maximum sequential shooting at 9.2 fps, making it easy to capture sports action or fast-moving subjects such as pets and wildlife. In addition, a compact new high-speed shutter mechanism enables the OM-D to offer this performance without compromising the handling advantages of a light and compact body.

5-AXIS IMAGE STABILIZATION

The OM-D is equipped with the world’s first 5-axis image stabilization system, and can compensate for vertical, horizontal, and rotational camera shake that conventional 2-axis systems of the past have been unable to handle. Built into the camera body to ensure effective stabilization with all lenses, its unique 5-axis design makes it particularly effective when taking high-magnification telephoto shots, macro close-ups, and long exposures. In addition, it can be activated by pressing the shutter button halfway, so you can also use it to stabilize the viewfinder image and obtain a crisp, clear view of your subject that makes it easy to frame and compose your shots.

Sensor unit with new 5-AXIS IS

The new 5-AXIS IS can compensate for five different types of movement:

1) pitching, 2) yawing, 3) horizontal movement, 4) vertical movement, and 5) rotational movement around the optical axis. As a result, it can compensate for types of camera shake that conventional 2-axis systems cannot, such as horizontal/vertical shake during macro shooting, rotational shake during long exposure shooting, and the low-frequency shake caused by walking or breathing during movie recording.

DUST-PROOF & SPLASH-PROOF CONSTRUCTION

Trouble-free shooting in all environments is assured by our proven dust-proof and splash-proof technology. Multiple ring-shaped seals protect the camera from sand, dust, rain, and water spray, making it ideal for all kinds of outdoor shooting. What’s more, the OM-D extends this protection to the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ lens, the bundled detachable flash unit, and the optional grip and power battery holder.

TILTING 3-INCH OLED TOUCHSCREEN

In addition to offering dial and button controls, the OM-D is the first Olympus camera to feature a tilting touch screen monitor for intuitive fingertip operation. The 3-inch OLED touch screen delivers high-resolution images of your subject with rich color reproduction. It also responds instantly to your touch with fast operation that makes it easy to focus on subjects, play back images, and adjust settings such as exposure and white balance.

LENSES AND ACCESSORIES

In addition to its new electronic motorized M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ lens with quiet, linear drive AF, the OM-D is supported by an ever-expanding range of wide-angle, macro, portrait, and telephoto Micro Four Thirds M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses. System accessories include cases, straps, filters, external flash units, and mount adapters for Four Thirds System lenses and OM System lenses.

Intelligent electronic VIEWFINDER

The High Resolution 1.4million dot EVF is a 100% accurate high eye point electronic viewfinder, delivering precise preview accuracy of highlight/shadow control, white balance and exposure for unlimited creative control. Eye sensor technology provides automatic switching between EVF and 3” tilt monitor. The shooter can choose from three different EVF informational display modes.

The E-M5 features an all new “5 axis” In-body Image Stabilization system that for the first time can compensate for not only vertical and horizontal camera movement, but as well for rotational camera shake that previous systems could not handle. It is effective for up to five shutter speed steps*. As it is built-in to the body, all lenses are stabilized, including wide-angle and fisheye lenses

3″ 610,000 DOT tilt/Touch OLED LCD

Dust and Splash Proof like the body; tilt and touch LCD gives you the flexibility to capture your image from low on the ground to above your head, or at any angle. The 100 percent accurate LCD delivers the precise compositional previews. The touch navigation feature allows the shooter to control various functions in the shooting and playback modes with the touch of a finger.

IPTC Data: Nikon D300, Nikon 200-400 VR AF-S f/4 at 400mm (effective 600mm on DX body), ISO 640, f/8 at 1/200sec, iTTL fill-flash with Nikon SB800 (EV-2.0), Tripod

Observing the tiny birds ‘routine flight path’ to specific flowers for over an hour, I pre-set focus in AF, then switched to Manual focus to ‘lock’ my composition. Using a Nikon wired shutter-release, Bogen carbon-fiber tripod and Wimberly gimbal-head, the 200-400mm never flinched even in my excitement as the ‘hummer’ flew into position. iTTL fill-flash from a Nikon SB800 (hand-held via SC17 cable) applied just the right ’stop-action’ to complement the gyrating wing-blur. This artificial ‘light’ also added color ‘pop’, an often under-used tool in outdoor photography!

Nikon’s 200-400mm VR f/4 AF-S lens works with all Nikon ‘full-frame’, as well as Nikon APS-size sensor (DX) D-SLRs. You too can ‘reach out’ with this lens through BCC’s rental department. Call 201.664.4113 or come by the Westwood store for more details.

This zoom lens has a maximum magnification of 4.2X, covering a range that extends from a wide angle of 24mm (35mm camera equivalent) – ideal for taking wide shots even indoors – to a medium telephoto focal length of 100mm (35mm camera equivalent), – optimal for portraits. A newly developed motorized zoom mechanism makes smooth, quiet zooming while shooting movies possible. The AF system is based on the MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism, and enhanced by a newly developed “Linear Motor Drive” that enables faster, quieter focusing. Macro shooting as close as 7.87 inches with a maximum image magnification of 0.72X (35mm camera equivalent) is possible. Dust and Splash Proof construction lets you shoot in harsh conditions without worry.

We are expecting this lens in January 2012. If you have questions or would like to put your name on our waiting list, please email or give us a call at 201-664-4113.

If you have any questions about the M9 upgrade service, please do not hesitate to contact Bergen County Camera.

Below is a list of FAQs regarding the M9 Upgrade Program.

Can any M9 be upgraded?
Yes, any M9 can be upgraded.

Where will the upgrades be done?
The upgrades will be done at Leica Camera USA’s facility in Allendale, NJ.

How long will the upgrade take? How long will I be without my camera?
Leica’s upgrade capacity is limited. Let us know when you are interested and we’ll get the timing and the day that Leica needs the camera coordinated for you. Leica’s goal is to have a door-to-door time of less than 4 weeks.

For the cost of the M9, should it not have come with these features?
The sapphire glass is unique on cameras. The sapphire glass has a very high material cost. It would raise the prices on standard cameras; therefore we are offering this as an upgrade.

Is this not just Leica charging the customer to fix design flaws in the camera?
The LCD glass is standard in the industry and does not represent a design flaw.

Will I be able to purchase a new M9 with these upgrades? Will they become ‘standard’?
A new M9 will not have these upgrades. The upgrades will not become ‘standard’ to the M9. Customers should instead buy the M9-P.

Will the Sapphire Glass cover be available as a part?
The sapphire glass will not be available as a single spare part.

Can I have either Upgrade Package without the Warranty Extension for a reduced cost?
No.

Can I have a top plate in one color and bottom plate in another color?
No.

Can the leatherette on an M9 be changed?
Yes, it can be changed for an additional charge if not done as part of the upgrade.

What happens to the serial number?
The serial number remains the same.

Is the lettering “M9-P” engraved on the existing horse shoe?
No, it will not have the lettering “M9-P”.

Other questions? Please call Bergen County Camera and we’ll get the answer for you.
